To protect the health of individuals who have scleroderma, the Scleroderma Foundation has canceled its 2020 Kids Get Scleroderma, Too! conference scheduled to take place July 17-19 in Bellevue, Washington.
This action is deeply disappointing for the entire community; however, it is absolutely necessary. As we all know well, individuals with scleroderma are immuno-compromised and have a heightened risk for the worst-case symptoms of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
This decision was taken after thorough review of information available through public health agencies, primarily the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and the State of Washington Public Health Department.
In lieu of the eagerly anticipated in-person educational conference and the unique and essential personal connections it provides; the Scleroderma Foundation is developing creative, alternative programming to be announced later.
A full refund of conference fees will be given automatically the week of March 16-20 to all currently registered to attend.
Hotel room reservations will not be canceled automatically. If you reserved a room, you must contact the hotel independently to cancel the reservation to avoid financial obligation.
We are pleased to announce that the conference will return to Bellevue, Washington in 2022. The location for the 2021 conference will be announced later this year.
The Foundation continues to be the best resource for information about scleroderma. A wealth of information can be found on scleroderma.org. Information requests can also be submitted by email, SFinfo@scleroderma.org, or by calling the Hope line, (800) 722-4673.
Video recordings of presentations by scleroderma experts at past Foundation conferences can be found at YouTube.com/sclerodermaUS.
KGS2 is a special experience, particularly for first-time attendees, but also for those who return every year. The Scleroderma Foundation staff and Board of Directors values each of you very highly, and we look forward to the next opportunity to share time together.
Thank you for your understanding.
Kids Get Scleroderma, Too!
A rewarding learning experience for Kids & Teens who have scleroderma.
The Kids Get Scleroderma, Too! conference (KGS2) is for youth, ages 5 to 17, who are living with scleroderma and for their immediate family members, including parents or guardians and siblings only.
KGS2 creates a safe and fun atmosphere for youth living with scleroderma to be themselves while they learn about their disease and interact with their peers. Educational activities are organized into age-appropriate groupings of younger children (5-12) and teens (13-17). Parents and guardians attending the conference will have their own session tracks designed specifically for the needs associated with raising a child with scleroderma. Siblings also benefit by learning about what their sister or brother is experiencing.
The program includes a juvenile panel discussion that allows participants to openly share their experiences about living with the disease, such as dealing with a diagnosis, treatment, school issues, relationships, body image, and more.
Kids Get Scleroderma, Too! is an exceptional program for youth who have scleroderma and for their siblings and parents or guardians.
