Fundraising Honor Roll

Hello Friends and Family,

As many of you may already know I am on a mission to complete an Ironman triathlon.  I have been training six days a week since the start of the year in order to prepare for this challenge, which includes a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run in a single day.  This day of fun, pain, and ultimate reward will take place in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho on Sunday June 29th.  However, my bigger mission is to help raise awareness and bring hope to those suffering from Scleroderma, the autoimmune disease that has rendered my Mom handicapped since her diagnosis in 2005.  There is still no known cause and no cure for this disease.  So, to honor my Mom, I am Hope Raising for the Scleroderma Foundation to help those whose lives have been affected by this disease and I need your support!

WHAT IS SCLERODERMA?

Scleroderma, or systemic sclerosis, is a chronic connective tissue disease generally classified as one of the autoimmune rheumatic diseases. The word “scleroderma” comes from two Greek words: “sclero” meaning hard, and “derma” meaning skin. Hardening of the skin is one of the most visible manifestations of the disease.  The disease involves an over-production of collagen by the body and in my Mom's case it became life threatening when it began to invade her vital organs, limiting the ability of her heart and lungs to function.  In fact, she was given six months to live back in 2006.  Luckily, she responded well to a treatment which stopped this horrible disease from spreading any further and she has lived to experience many wonderful moments, like the birth of her grandson!  However, she has had to learn to live with very limited mobility and cope with severe pain everyday.  Despite the pain she endures, she is full of hope and I cannot think of a better way to honor her than to put my self thru one day of pain and help support this cause.

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.

All contributions are for the Scleroderma Foundation to use to help find a cure for those whose lives have been affected by scleroderma.

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!

Thank you,

Greg Brown
