2. The number of scholarships awarded will depend on the availability of donations received to the scholarship fund and the number of qualified applications received.

3. Scholarships are available for adult patients, children with scleroderma, and parent caregivers for minor children with scleroderma.

Only ONE scholarship application will be accepted per family. Funds can only be used for one member of the family unless the application is for a minor child with scleroderma who must be accompanied by a parent and/or guardian.

4. Previous conference scholarship award recipients are ineligible to apply until three (3) years after the year of the initial award, i.e, if you attended the 2015 conference with a scholarship, you cannot apply again until the 2018 conference.

5. Scholarships will be awarded based on the following criteria:

  • Must be a current paid member of the Scleroderma Foundation. (Membership is $25 annually for U.S. and $35 annually for international members.)

If you are unsure of your membership status or need to become a member prior to application, please call the Foundation at (800) 722-HOPE (4673). You can also sign up for membership online. (a new window will open)

**Financial Requirement: APPLICANTS MUST ATTACH A COPY OF THE MOST RECENT IRS FEDERAL TAX RETURN(s) AND/OR SSDI ANNUAL INCOME STATEMENT TO THE APPLICATION. IF MARRIED and FILING SEPARATELY, BOTH APPLICANT AND SPOUSE MUST SUBMIT ABOVE MENTIONED INCOME FORMS. ADDITIONALLY, IF THERE IS ANOTHER PERSON SUPPORTING THE HOUSEHOLD OTHER THAN SPOUSE, YOU MUST ALSO PROVIDE THE TAX DOCUMENTS FOR THEM. This is necessary to receive verification of your total household income. THESE DOCUMENTS MUST EQUAL THE AMOUNT LISTED ON PAGE ONE UNDER TOTAL FAMILY INCOME. If the amounts are not equal, please provide an explanation on a separate piece of paper.

Applicants are given an opportunity to state any extenuating factors (i.e., costs of medical treatment) on the application for which they feel the committee should take under consideration in application.

  • Priority is given to applicants attending their first Scleroderma Foundation National Conference
  • Consideration is given to applicants actively involved in Scleroderma Foundation activities

6. Scholarship award funds will be applied first to conference registration costs, second to hotel costs for up to two nights, and third to travel expenses, (i.e., if you receive a $1,200 scholarship, the cost of registration, hotel, and travel will be deducted. Any remaining balance may then be used for reimbursement of miscellaneous expenses such as meals not to exceed the balance. Additional information provided upon notification of a scholarship award)

All travel arrangements must be made through the Scleroderma Foundation National Office.

7. Notice of scholarship status will be sent from the Foundation VIA EMAIL in mid-April. Please be sure to include a valid email address on application form. If you do not have an email, notification will be sent via USPS.
