New Uses for Old Drug Therapies


Recent National Institutes of Health (NIH) research has shown some older medication therapies, like aspirin, a type of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), may have other health benefits.

Aspirin and other NSAIDs are known to have anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting COX (cyclooxygenase) enzymes. These enzymes are pivotal in the inflammatory process, which is the body's normal reaction to an injury or disease. Long-term inflammation is linked to other diseases and cancers.

Find a Scleroderma Walk Near You!

Walk Family

One way that you can support people living with scleroderma for Scleroderma Awareness Month is to take part in your local Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma event.

These walk and run events are held all over the United States by Scleroderma Foundation chapters and support groups. They are a fun, family-friendly event. Many walks are still happening this June and throughout the rest of the year so find an event near you.

If you don't find a walk in your state or town or you aren't physically able to participate, you can still support the cause. Join our World Scleroderma Day virtual event, where you can sign-up to fundraise. Create a team and ask your family and friends to join your fundraising effort.

Press Release: 2017 ENTELLIGENCE Award Winners


2017 Entelligence Award Winners
Actelion Pharmaceuticals US, Inc. and the ENTELLIGENCE Steering Committee recognized four young researchers and their mentors this year for their efforts in advancing research in pulmonary vascular pathobiology. Each researcher will receive a 12-month mentored grant of up to $100,000, funded through the Actelion-supported ENTELLIGENCE program.

The announcement was made at a recent award luncheon held in Washington, DC during the time of the American Thoracic Society’s annual meeting. The recipients of the 2017 awards gave an overview of their proposed work during the luncheon.
