Mycophenolate Linked to Improvements with Scleroderma-related Interstitial Lung Disease

Researchers at the University of California David Geffen School of Medicine recently published data indicating that compared to a placebo, treatment with mycophenolate was linked to improvements in physiologic measures and dyspnea in scleroderma patients with interstitial lung disease.

A randomized trial looked at forced vital capacity%-predicted (FVC%) as the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes included diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide-predicted (DLCO%-predicted) and skin score, as well as dyspnea.

National Conference Keynote Speakers Announced

Andrew BotieriWe are pleased to announce this year's keynote speakers for the 19th Annual National Patient Education Conference in Chandler, Ariz.

Returning this year to open the conference is Andrew Botieri, a motivational and thought leader expert. Andrew was diagnosed in 1999 with scleroderma and has authored the book, “A Celebration of Life - A Story of Hope, A Miracle and The Power of Attitude,” about his struggles and challenges of living with scleroderma using perseverance and a positive attitude.

Karen VasquezThis year's closing keynote will be presented by Karen Vasquez, who was diagnosed with scleroderma in 1994. Karen has been working as a scleroderma and chronic disease advocate for more than 20 years and will share how that tenacity saved her life more than once.
