CASE STUDY #5
Carol
Feghali, Ph.D., Research Assistant Professor, University
of Pittsburgh. Dr. Feghali's groundbreaking study
Analysis of Twins with Systemic Sclerosis was supported
by a $100,000 grant from the Scleroderma Foundation.
Her current work includes the role of genes versus the
environment in the development of scleroderma. Dr. Feghali
notes, "the Foundation's research grant program
provides the support that junior investigators need
to launch a career in scleroderma research. It also
provides the funds for investigators at all stages of
their careers to pursue pilot studies and produce preliminary
data that are key components of successful applications
for larger grants."
