The Scleroderma Foundation has given extremely valuable
support to our research. After it supported a Phase
I trial of oral type I collagen treatment of scleroderma,
we were able to obtain a $2.4 million contract from
NIH to perform a double blind, placebo-controlled multicenter
trial. This study is now being conducted at 11 participating
centers in the U.S. The Scleroderma Foundation also
supported research in my lab that allowed us to obtain
NIH funding for a scleroderma research project with
a total budget of nearly $4.4 million. We expect valuable
new approaches to understanding and treating scleroderma
will result.
