Bobby Hamilton, Jr.

Tenth Place Finish in the Pepsi 300 Places Hamilton 11th in Points Race

Bobby Hamilton, Jr. took advantage of a hometown race to climb a little higher in the NASCAR Nationwide point’s standings. With the Nationwide Series racing at Nashville Superspeedway, the Greenbrier, Tennessee resident banked on the support of hometown fans to record a strong top-ten finish. He now stands less than 100 points out of fourth place.

As the race came to a close, Hamilton raced his way to 10th on a track that is hard to pass on. Despite not finishing where the team had hoped, the top-ten finish was a nice boost in the season-long point’s race.

"The guys [team and crew] did this. I had no idea we'd come back to a 10th place finish because we were absolutely horrible on the first run. Overall, our Smithfield Ford Fusion was good. I'm just tickled to death. I was figuring we'd be 15th to 20th here by the end of the day. We battled back. Where we ended up, it was right. These guys did a fantastic job."

Hamilton was interviewed by the roving TV announcers both before and after the race. What a great awareness opportunity for the Foundation. For two full minutes, the Scleroderma Foundation’s logo positioned on the front of Bobby’s fire suit was seen by millions of race fans who tuned into ESPN to watch the race.

Kyle Busch dominated Saturday's Pepsi 300 at Nashville Superspeedway but lost control of his Toyota off Turn 4 after leading 125 of the first 162 laps. However, Busch’s loss was Scott Wimmer’s gain. Wimmer was the first non-Sprint Cup driver to win a Nationwide race this season and the first since Jason Leffler won at O'Reilly Raceway last July.

The Nationwide Series takes a break next week. Look for Bobby’s next appearance at the Texas Motor Speedway for the O’Reilly 300 on Saturday, April 5.
