Hamilton Finishes 20th in Rain Delayed California Race
Nearly 48 hours after the scheduled start of the Stater Bros. 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race, the green flag finally dropped. Heavy rains in Southern California placed the teams and drivers into a very tough situation by sending the race from Saturday to Monday. With only one hour of practice, the teams were finally able to start the race Monday afternoon, immediately following the rain-delayed 500 mile Sprint Cup race.
To no ones surprise, the Cup drivers used the track time advantage to their favor to complete a sweep of the top nine finishing positions. Tony Stewart beat Kyle Busch to the checkered flag to win his second straight Nationwide Series race. Bobby Hamilton in the Team Rensi/Curley’s BBQ Ford finished 20th after racing as high as 12th earlier in the race.
“This has been a tough weekend. We had hoped to be closer to the top-ten today but our car wasn’t strong enough down the straightaways.” Nevertheless, Hamilton now stands in 14th place in the season long driver point’s championship race.
After a 30-hour stay back home in North Carolina, Team Rensi Motorsports will head back out west for the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and a 300-mile Sam’s Town 300 on Saturday, March 1 at 4 p.m. Check your local listings for ESPN2 broadcast times in your area and be sure to cheer Bobby and the entire team on to victory. |
