There are thousands of reasons why we do what we do. Here are two of them—two walkers from the Chicago Chapter's Highland Park 2008 walk. |
Giving Thanks Throughout the Year
At the Scleroderma Foundation, we believe that sharing our good will and fortune with others helps to create positive changes within the scleroderma community. Whether we each give our time, savings, and/or expertise—"giving thanks" each day to one another makes us all fortunate year-round.
Just this past year, the "Scleroderma Voice" highlighted a variety of individuals who expressed their personal thanks to those who made a difference in their lives.
- Marjorie Swayne, a single mother and teacher profiled in our March issue, expressed her optimism and gratitude for having understanding and empathetic students.
- Alivia Watson, 10, was grateful for her family and friends and the medicines that made her feel better. (March issue)
- Ron Geddes of Cheektowaga, N.Y. expressed his gratitude in our June issue to the donor of his double-lung transplant.
- Khloe Lewis, 12, voiced her appreciation for her doctors and their ability to help her to manage the symptoms of her scleroderma. (June issue)
- Dr. Ann Smith-Barnes gratefully acknowledged the inspiration she receives from the positive attitudes of others. (September issue)

Each individual was grateful for someone or something in their life—be it a doctor, a medication, or a stranger who came to their aid. Each person was thankful for the individuals that cared—and continue to care—for their well-being. Reading these supportive stories helps to remind us that our daily efforts do not go unappreciated. Our commitment to the Foundation’s mission makes a difference both in our local communities and nationwide. Each individual’s contribution to the Foundation brings us one step closer to finding a cure—giving us all something to be thankful for, and more importantly, something to believe in.
