First 100 by $1,000 Event Is 10 Days
Away
The first 100 by $1,000 event to help benefit the Scleroderma
Foundation is 10 days away and is fast rounding into
form. The event is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 12, at
the Palm Valley Club in Palm Desert, California.
Bobbi Salmon, an LPGA teaching professional and pro
golfer, and a scleroderma patient will attend the event.
She is responsible for the concept of the 100 by $1,000
with the goal to raise $1,000 or more at each of the
100 golf events across the country. Events can be tournaments,
clinics, auctions, raffles, etc. The Foundation is one
of three charities to benefit from monies raised from
the events.
The
course is set amidst the backdrop of the gorgeous
Santa Rosa Mountains in the desert of Southern California.
Teaching professional Malia Folquet, who is overseeing
the event, is expecting 20 foursomes to compete. The
event is a shamble format. (Shamble is a combination
of a scramble in which four players hit a shot all from
the same spot, with the low score on the hole counting,
combined with players’ handicaps).
Among the players who have committed to playing is
Chris Harrison, a self-acknowledged “golf addict”
and friend to the Scleroderma Foundation. Chris, who
hosts “The Bachelor” on ABC television,
and “Designers Challenge” on the Home and
Garden Television Network, was kind enough to emcee
the Foundation’s auction at the gala in Las Vegas
last October and he and his wife Gwen appeared on the
back cover of the most recent “Scleroderma Voice”
magazine.
Folquet says she is confident the event will raise
more than $1,000, adding she is hopeful she can collect
another $3,000–$4,000. Monies raised from the
event will be allocated to three charities, including
the Scleroderma Foundation.
The event will also include a live and silent auction,
and many golf-related games and activities that raise
money.
If you are interested in playing or wish to donate
an item, you may contact the club at 760-345-2742. Please
remember a portion of your entry fee or gift will benefit
the Foundation.
