American Pain Foundation
Special Chat, Tuesday February 21
"Talking With Your Doctor About
Pain"
Online Chat with Dr. Chester “Trip”
Buckenmaier, (AKA “Doc Buck”), Tuesday,
February 21, 8–9 p.m. EST.
Dr. Buckenmaier's previous chats have focused on pain
related to battlefield trauma, but this chat would be
appropriate for anyone who has chronic pain and has
a difficult time obtaining relief or discussing the
subject with their health care team.
The American Pain Foundation (APF) is pleased to announce
its fourth Special Online Chat with Chester “Trip”
Buckenmaier III, M.D., LTC, MC, Chief, Army Regional
Anesthesia and Pain Management Initiative (ARAPMI) at
Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Buckenmaier is
a vocal advocate for quality pain treatment. He has
been interviewed on National Public Radio, ABC TV, and
by WIRED Magazine, where he was nominated for a WIRED
Rave Award celebrating “The People Changing Your
Mind” leading innovators who are changing the
world by doing something new.
Dr. Buckenmaier has extensive experience working in
Walter Reed Hospital and more recently in the battlefield
in Iraq. He hears frustration from many people about
the doctor/patient relationship and, not being one to
avoid the hard questions, he is offering an opportunity
to tackle this issue. Physician/patient communication
is always vital, but particularly so when the problem
(pain) is complex, hard to measure and not well understood.
Come chat with Doc Buck and hear more or just listen
in on the conversation! It’s easier than you think.
For information on Doc Buck, links to articles about
him and instructions on how to join this special chat,

process is complete, and any problems can be resolved
in time for participation. A few minutes before the
chat, click the login button with your user name and
password, then click on Conference Room One. If you
can’t make the chat time, the transcript will
be archived for later review.
