Motorcycle Raffle to Benefit Scleroderma Foundation
Motorcycle enthusiasts will have the opportunity to
win a fully restored 1974 bike and benefit the Scleroderma
Foundation on the same night. A fundraising raffle will
be held Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Lake Elsinore Casino
in California where the Husqvaran 250 WR will be awarded.
Net proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Foundation,
along with the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Tickets are
$3, or four for $10, and may be purchased the day of
the event, at Temecula Motorsports in California, or
www.racingforlife.org.
Jim Filanc and his Nitro Tire Racing for Life teammates
have been raising money for both foundations all year.
The team has been on a cross-country tour to raise awareness
of scleroderma, making visits to 11 cities and events,
including Bike Week 2006 in Daytona Beach, Florida,
and Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. At each
location, fans of off-road racing have purchased the
Scleroderma Foundation wristband, and received a raffle
ticket for the motorcycle.
Jim’s sister Julia Lynn died of scleroderma and
cancer last October.
The raffle will be held during the drawing for race
positions for the season-ending Tecate Score Baja 1000,
to be held Nov. 15–18. Nitro Tire Racing for Life
will use the Julia Lynn bike at the event, and later
make it available for raffle at an event to be announced. |
