Medical Advisory Board Member Wins
a National Education Award
Frank C. Arnett, M.D., a member of the Medical Advisory
Board at the Scleroderma Foundation, has been named
the 2006 recipient of the TIAA-CREF Distinguished Medical
Educator Award. He holds the Elizabeth Bidgood Chair
in Rheumatology at the University of Texas Medical School
at Houston.
“Dr. Arnett is universally regarded as an inspirational
educator and scholar who leads by example,” said
Dr. Michael Speer, the chair of the award’s steering
committee. “He is a very active teacher whether
he lecturing to a large classroom group or with a small
group of clinicians at bedside. His ability to impart
his knowledge and skills, along with his dedication
to medicine, define him as a true distinguished medical
educator.”
This award is given to those who deeply impact the
level, availability and quality of healthcare through
teaching and mentoring.
Dr. Arnett received his medical degree from the University
of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1968. Over the
years he has won 22 teaching awards.
“We often say that the Foundation works with
many of the top doctors, hospital and medical schools
in the United States,” said Frannie Waldron, acting
executive director of the Scleroderma Foundation. “The
fact that Dr. Arnett has won a major award like this
proves this is not just an empty phrase. We’re
proud of Dr. Arnett, as, I’m sure, the other organizations
with which he is affiliated are.”
The award was presented to Dr. Arnett at a special
ceremony held Thursday, June 22.
