About Charlene M. Prather, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P., A.G.A.F.

Charlene M. Prather, M.D. is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. She is the director of Gastrointestinal Motility and Functional Bowel Disorders and directs the GI physiology laboratory. She serves as program director for the Gastroenterology subspecialty fellowship program. She specializes in diagnosing and treating patients with esophageal disorders, bowel incontinence, constipation, celiac disease and irritable bowel syndrome. Her currently active research projects include an NIH sponsored trial on functional dyspepsia (unexplained upper abdominal pain) and an NCI sponsored trial on Barrett esophagus.

Dr. Prather earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, where she completed a residency in internal medicine and served as Chief Resident.  Dr. Prather gained further training in gastroenterology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She joined the faculty of Saint Louis University in 1998.
