About Susan NyanziSusan A Nyanzi, DrPH, MPH, CHES, ACSM Dr. Susan Nyanzi, a Chronic Disease and Wellness Specialist, provides integrated lifestyle counseling in the areas of nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and addictive behaviors for the prevention, management, and treatment of chronic degenerative diseases, with a focus in rheumatic and autoimmune disorders. Dr Nyanzi received her Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry, and a minor in psycho-biology from Loma Linda University and a Masters in Public Health with a speciality in health services, and a Doctorate in Public Health (DrPH) with a speciality in chronic disease management all from Loma Linda School of Public Health. Dr. Nyanzi has counseled patients, developed, implemented and evaluated interventions on lifestyle modification at: 1) a diabetes treatment center; 2) a veterans' medical center; 3) a rheumatology clinic; and 4) currently in her private practice. Her previous work includes working with the March of Dimes, Inland Empire division, where she developed and implemented a curriculum on preconception care for African American women. To help address the childhood obesity epidemic, Dr. Nyanzi developed an evidence-based childhood obesity program for pediatricians in private practice, which was presented at the Los Angeles Childhood Obesity Conference 2007. At the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Dr. Nyanzi received several grants, developed and conducted a study to assess knowledge, attitude, beliefs and practices of underserved communities for childhood immunization rates, developed a curriculum on women’s health and lifestyle, a best practice project on reaching urban African American women, and is currently a member of the Quality Assurance team formed in response to the Director of Public Health’s request. The team, a pioneer in the county system, will use continuous quality improvement techniques to address performance measures of all programs within the public health department. Dr. Nyanzi has presented at numerous conferences and has published on public health and lifestyle in several county and local newsletters and magazines. Dr. Nyanzi is a Certified Health Educator Specialist (CHES) and is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). |
