MediQuest Receives NDA Response from FDA

MediQuest Therapeutics, Inc. received a Complete Response letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Division of Cardiovascular and Renal Products for its New Drug Application (NDA) 22-241 (covering Vascana® [MQX-503], a proposed topical therapy for Raynaud’s Disease). The application received priority review and the letter was received one day prior to the six-month PDUFA date of Oct. 25, 2008.

End-of-Life Discussions With Physicians May Have Benefits For Patients and Caregivers

Terminally ill patients who had end-of-life discussions with physicians were not more likely to experience emotional distress, received less aggressive medical care in their final week of life and had a better quality of life near death, compared to patients who did not have these discussions, according to a study in the October 8 issue of JAMA.

Dear Dr. Donohue: I would like to know more about Sjögren's syndrome. The doctor made the diagnosis after taking more than 25 blood tests. He is a rheumatologist. I am afraid I will get cancer because of it. The doctor has given me Plaquenil to take. J.S.

Read the results of the above study, which was completed by Janet L. Poole, Ph.D., OTR/L of the University of New Mexico and Jane Brandenstein PT of Pittsburgh, Pa. The study was supported by participants who attended the 2007 National Conference.

"Chasing the Cure" is a story about a woman named Doris Razo who has scleroderma and who underwent a stem cell transplant. She has agreed to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of her book to the Scleroderma Foundation.

Bobby Hamilton, Jr. Hopes to End Season with Another Solid Run

Following an 18th place finish in Phoenix last Saturday, Bobby hopes to end the season on a high note. The final Nationwide Series race of the year takes place this coming Saturday, November 15th in the Ford 300 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway. You can catch all the action at 4 p.m. on ESPN2. Check local listings for the time in your area. Bobby’s has had a solid season (15th in official driver points) so be sure to tune in to cheer him on to another solid finish.
