This table was appropriately named the "Table of Hope." |
This week the national office celebrated the official “kick-off” of the Foundation’s Research Program for the coming year. This past Monday, September 15, marked the deadline for researchers across the United States and abroad to submit their research grant proposals to the Foundation. That same afternoon, national office staff prepared and organized all of the rapidly accumulating proposals being delivered via Federal Express, UPS, DHL, and other overnight shipping services. |

Philip Clements, M.D. answers questions about scleroderma in this article. |
By LESLIE BERGER
Like many autoimmune ailments, scleroderma remains a great unknown. Despite decades of research, the cause of this rare and complicated disease has yet to be discovered. But the good news is that doctors have a pretty clear understanding of how scleroderma progresses—a natural history, they call it—and are better than ever at extending and easing their patients’ lives.
“Lots of patients and lots of doctors used to consider it a ‘black box’ disease, a complete mystery, with little that could be done,” said Dr. Philip J. Clements of the University of California, Los Angeles, who is a scleroderma specialist. “Now there’s a body of evidence that tells us what to watch out for, and when.” |

Bobby and The Nationwide Series Return to Action
After a one week break, Bobby Hamilton, Jr. and the Team Rensi Motorsports #25 Ford Fusion are back in action this weekend in the Camping World RV Sales 200 (supporting the Childrens Institute for Pediatric Trauma) at the famed “Monster Mile" in Dover, Delaware.
Dover International Speedway is a high-banked one-mile concrete oval. The high-grip surface lets drivers really get aggressive and push the car, but at the expense of tire wear. On a typical race day in Dover you'll see a number of different strategies play out. The race can be won by charging hard all day, by laying back and saving your tires for the end, or even by playing the fuel mileage game. You just never know what Dover will bring.
You can watch Bobby and the entire team on Saturday, September 20 on ESPN2 at 3 p.m. Check your local listings for the broadcast time in your area. |
