More Research Needed to Understand Scleroderma

Newswise — With an estimated 14 million cases worldwide, you would think more would be known about scleroderma, a chronic, debilitating disease that can lead to the hardening and tightening of skin and connective tissue. But it seems that we don’t know enough: “We don’t have all the answers and that is the reason why we need to do more research,” says Carol Feghali-Bostwick, Ph.D., assistant professor of medicine at the University of Pittsburgh.

Scleroderma Awareness Month and NASCAR

As June is designated as Scleroderma Awareness Month, Team Rensi Motorsports is honoring the Scleroderma Foundation. During this special weekend in Milwaukee, team members will wear scleroderma hats and special Scleroderma/Team Rensi Motorsports/Smithfield T-shirts. Additionally, the scleroderma flag will be displayed on top of the team hauler and pit box and scleroderma brochures will be available to all those wishing to learn more about this devastating disease. Lastly, for maximum awareness, larger Scleroderma Foundation logos will be prominent on the Team Rensi Motorsport/Smithfield #25 Ford Fusion. With larger logos and media attention, scleroderma will get the national attention it deserves. This remarkable gesture on the part of Team Rensi Motorsports will be an opportunity to educate the public and focus attention on this uncommon and potentially catastrophic disorder involving the skin and internal organs. Be sure to tune in to ESPN2 on Saturday, June 21st at 8 p.m. and be a part of this special and unique event.
