Bobbi Salmon, the golf teaching professional who lives with scleroderma, is organizing a nationwide effort to raise money for and awareness of the disease. Called 100 X $1,000, her goal is to raise at least $1,000 per golf tournament or clinic to support scleroderma.

Connective Tissue Disease and Interstitial Lung Disease

Medscape Today Logo

Dr. Marvin Schwartz from Denver, Colorado, presented data showing that the incidence of interstitial lung disease (ILD) in the context of connective tissue disease (CTD) is higher than previously appreciated. ILD may precede the development of clinically obvious CTD, sometimes by months or years. Therapies for this entity have not been well studied except in the case of the recent scleroderma treatment trial of cyclophosphamide.[1] Dr. Schwartz commented that, in his experience, rheumatologists are less inclined to obtain a tissue diagnosis and are also less inclined to treat the condition (may require free registration to Medscape).
