Robert Riggs Named Chief Development Officer of Scleroderma Foundation

Robert Riggs, who has a working history with the Scleroderma Foundation dating back to 1995, has been hired as its chief development officer. He will begin his new position on January 1.

LASIK in Patients with Autoimmune Diseases

In this retrospective case series, the records of patients who had LASIK at the Maloney Vision Institute, Los Angeles, between June 1, 1998, and October 1, 2004, were reviewed for a history of autoimmune disease including systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, scleroderma, inflammatory bowel disease, Graves' disease, Reiter's syndrome and Hashimoto's disease. The records were reviewed for corneal and scleral complications of autoimmune disease after LASIK.

Need to Know: We need your questions

Beginning in 2007, a new, regular feature will be included in the Foundation’s quarterly magazine, the “Scleroderma Voice.” Each issue will include a question and answer section, in which members’ and patients’ questions relating to scleroderma will be asked, and answered by scleroderma experts.

Jim Filanc and his "Racing for Life" team

After a year of raising money and awareness for the Scleroderma Foundation, Jim Filanc and the Racing for Life organization will be presenting a check to the Foundation in the very near future. The last of many events took place earlier this month when the Julia Lynn off road motorcycle was sold at auction at the Tecate Score Baja 1000 awards banquet. Mary Vale, from the Temecula Valley Support Group, was introduced during the event.

This is the season where many of us travel (often great distances) to visit with family or to spend time away from the demands of our busy lives. Traveling can be challenging to the seasoned voyager, as well as to the first-time traveler.

Holiday Schedule for National Office

In observance of the Christmas holiday, the National Office will be closed Monday, Dec. 25. We will reopen on Tuesday, Dec. 26.
