Keeping Hands Flexible

You simply must fight scleroderma’s impact on your hands. From my own non-expert experience, the only alternative is a slow, inexorable progression to what I saw at a scleroderma meeting: a lovely lady who had both hands frozen into clenched fists, still feeling pressure. Fortunately, she had a kind husband who did everything she couldn’t.

Treprostinil Treatment Appears to Improve Health of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Patients: Presented at CHEST

Patients can handle safely be treated for up to 1 year with subcutaneous treprostinil (Remodulin) for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), researchers reported here at CHEST 2006, the annual meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians.

The Scleroderma Foundation will be represented at the 70th annual meeting of the American College of Rheumatology at the Washington Convention Center in downtown Washington, D.C. on November 10-15.

Racing for Life group raising money for Scleroderma Foundation

Jim Filanc’s year-long effort to raise money and awareness for the Scleroderma Foundation is about to reach its crescendo with the Score Baja 1000 off-road race Nov. 15-18, but several events leading up to the big race have already benefited the Foundation.

Two Proteins Have Unexpected Effects On Autoimmune Diseases Such As Lupus

Blocking the effect of individual immune system proteins that normally recognize viruses and bacteria produces surprisingly different effects on the severity of autoimmune diseases such as Lupus, researchers at Yale School of Medicine report in the September issue of Immunity. Drugs that target these proteins could be important therapies for autoimmunity.

Scleroderma awareness comes to Tennessee, Sat., Oct. 28. Please be sure to watch for the Scleroderma Foundation’s logo on the #22 car of our awareness partner—Kenny Wallace—as he races in Sam's Town 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park in Memphis, Tenn.

This race will air on NBC television and MRN radio networks. The race will air at 2 p.m. eastern. Support Kenny and help spread scleroderma awareness.
