Recognition of Our Volunteers
THURSDAY VOLUNTEERS
-
Amie Yaussy
Vice President, Ohio Chapter
Scleroderma Foundation
“The first time I talked to Amie I contacted her
to see about getting a group started. She sent me everything
I needed plus she is there when I have questions. She
keeps me informed about what is going on and I really
like that. I try to the same for our group as she does
for me. Funny thing is I haven’t actually met with
her, but I always enjoy chatting with her. Thanks, Amie,
for everything!” Jerri Sue
DeTray, Toledo Area Support Group
-
Barbara Caldwell
Group Leader
Northwest Mississippi Scleroderma Support Group
Scleroderma Foundation
“Barbara Caldwell started the first and only support
group in the State of Mississippi. She worked endless
hours to form the group two years ago. She makes certain
we have a gust speaker each month to share information
about how to live a healthier lifestyle and provides resource
information. Our group has one of the best patient education
support groups in the nation. Barbara has diffuse scleroderma
with lung involvement. Many days she must rely on oxygen
to breathe, yet she always has time to offer support and
information to anyone who calls her. She is proof that
no matter what stage your disease is, you can always find
time to volunteer your time to help support and educate.
Our group is 14 miles from Memphis, Tenn. There is a wonderful
scleroderma research center at the University of Tennessee-Memphis.
Many in our group have been able to be in clinical research
studies there. The research doctors have talked at our
meetings many times, thanks to Barbara’s dedication
to our support group. She certainly deserves to be recognized
for her dedication.”
