"Cooking Up a Storm for Scleroderma"

A Scleroderma Foundation Awareness Event

What …

It’s a simple concept, the Scleroderma Foundation wants to have a number of intimate, community-based dinner parties, designed to generate awareness, education, and funds for the Foundation.

This will be accomplished through friends of the Foundation, like you, hosting personal dinner parties, all across the country, in your home or a nearby restaurant or function facility.

Who ...

Hosts: Hosts/hostesses can be friends, family, Chapter or Support Group leaders and members. Hosts’ responsibilities will include donating the food and beverage they serve as well as their cooking preparation time.

Guests: In addition to the host(s), each dinner party will have 6–10 guests who will be asked to make a donation to attend the dinner.

The host/hostess is encouraged to invite friends, family, co-workers, and business or community leaders who do not have any knowledge of scleroderma. In addition to a night of good food, drink, and camaraderie, guests will be asked to view a short video on scleroderma, hear from the host about their connection to the disease, and take home an information packet.

Hosts are encouraged to remind guests their donation will be no more than they would spend on Saturday night restaurant dining, and their tax-deductible donation will be supporting a great cause.

When …

Plan the dinner for any evening that is convenient for you and your guests. Pick a time that will give you a good response from the people you have invited.

Thursday evening? Saturday night? Sunday brunch? It doesn’t matter to us! All that matters is that you have guests present who are willing and interested in learning a little bit about scleroderma.

How …

  • All the host/hostess needs to think about is a fantastic meal—suggested themes and menus are available to help with planning.
  • Internet tools will allow hosts to invite and register their dinner guests online; or, easy sample invitations are included in the host/hostess packet.
  • Guests can RSVP and donate online and receive a confirmation and receipt via email immediately.
  • One week prior to the event, the guests will receive an event reminder and the host will receive a "party package" that will include a video and scleroderma literature.
  • Have a great party!

Goal …

We want to boost awareness of scleroderma and the work of the Scleroderma Foundation by inviting as many people as possible, from around the country, to hear our story—through you!

Website …

Hosts wishing to take advantage of having guests RSVP and donate via credit card on line, can list their dinner on the Cooking Up a Storm website at: www.scleroderma.org/cookingupastorm.htm.

It only takes a few minutes to set up your own dinner page, and once your site is up and running you can e-mail all your invited guests to let them know about your dinner.
