"Nothing Is Impossible" Golf Tournament Raises $30,000 Toward Bobbi Salmon Project

Bobbi Salmon, a 24-year veteran of women's professional golf and a scleroderma survivor, was on hand at The Links Golf Club in Post Falls, Idaho to kick off a fundraiser on July 27. One hundred participants enjoyed the outstanding weather for a shotgun start tournament and chicken barbeque. Several donated items including golf clubs and jewelry were raffled as well. The Links golf professional, Patti Marquis, a personal friend of Bobbi Salmon, spent countless hours organizing the benefit with the assistance of her staff. The $30,000 raised will benefit scleroderma research and an LPGA fund to support players with disabling or terminal illnesses.

Debbie Liddell and Roberta Choma, Spokane Support Group co-leaders, represented the Scleroderma Foundation in providing educational materials and answering questions for players and spectators. Because the event was so successful, golf pro Patti Marquis plans to host another event in 2008.

Two Chapter Members Honored at 2007 National Conference

The Evergreen Chapter has the great fortune to be comprised of a team of passionate and dedicated members. As our chapter celebrates its 15th year, we are so very honored to have two of this year’s national award recipient's on our team.

Chapter Volunteer of the Year – Bunny Garthe, President of the Evergreen Chapter, was involved in organizing the first "Stepping Out" walk, and is a great support for people who have no hope.

Messenger of Hope – Kris Garthe, Bunny’s daughter, is a support group leader and was the driving force for the first walk. Very willing to share her story, Kris survived a stem cell transplantation procedure seven years ago. Her ever-present smile lights up a room.

Kris and Bunny have inspired our chapter for many years with their unwavering strength, commitment, sacrifice, and dedication.

Congratulations to both Kris and Bunny for your well deserved awards presented at this year's National Conference in Philadelphia! Their leadership and inspiration has been vital in the growth, development, and success of the Evergreen chapter.

Senator Pat Murray at one of her weekly coffee sessions.

Senator Pat Murray Hosts Weekly Coffee for Washington State Constituents. Every Wednesday morning when the Senate is in session, Senator Murray hosts a weekly coffee for Washington state constituents. This is an opportunity for Washington state residents who are visiting our nation's capitol to meet Senator Murray and chat briefly with her. Families are welcome to bring their children to the coffee. The coffee runs from 8:30–9:00 a.m. in the Senator's Washington, D.C. office: Room 173 of the Russell Senate Office Building. A photographer is available to take your picture with the Senator. Please arrive at 8:20 a.m. (We often move to another room to better accommodate a large turnout).

NOTE: If you signed up for their coffee by using the webform that was previously on Senator Murray's home page, they did not receive your RSVP. Please telephone their office at 202-224-2621. Thank you. More.
