The Scleroderma
Foundation, Inc., Southeast Florida Chapter, was
founded in February 1989. The first meeting consisted
of a few people and was held in a private home.
The disease was virtually unknown, and it was
difficult to find reading material or to find
physicians who knew about this awful disease.
The Southeast Florida Chapter grew from two dozen
members in 1989 to 163 members in 2001. Our
mailing list now consists of over 500 people who
support our efforts fighting scleroderma.
The increase in our membership gave us the ability
to raise money for research. Our first fundraiser
was a step-a-thon in June 1993. This was
a big success, raising $3,500. |
