"Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma" – September in Sacramento
A great big THANK YOU to all who participated in the Northern California Chapter's 6th annual "Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma" walk held on Sunday September 28, 2008 in Sacramento, Ca. We had nearly 400 people attend, and $40,000 was raised to help those who suffer from scleroderma. This will help with our trifold mission of research, education and support.
It was a beautiful fall day in sunny Sacramento as we gathered together in Cesar Chavez park. We had a brownie troop ready with coffee and snacks, as we donned our T-shirts and got the BBQ going. We passed under a beautiful balloon arch as we left for a 2 mile hike around downtown Sac and the State Capitol. Many people asked who we were and got an invitation to come to the park and pick up information about scleroderma. We had many families walking in support or memory of a loved one.
As they walkers returned they were treated to a hamburger or hot dog and a cold drink. Friends and families joined together, many of whom make this an annual reunion. We had a bounce house for the kids, miniature golfing for prizes, a great DJ who serenaded us with tunes, face painting and a raffle with many donated prizes.
We look forward to next year's walk, and one year closer to finding a cure for scleroderma.
We thank our sponsors: Actelion, Pinnacle Assett Management, Citibank-Smith Barney, North Bay Publishing Solutions, Lung RX, J's Printing, Nabisco, Starbucks, Alhambra, Blue Tangerine Spa, and Accredo.
