Patient Education Day on Sunday, February 17: Educational, Informational and Fun!

On a cold, snowy and icy Sunday afternoon, patients and their loved ones gathered at the Scleroderma Foundation MI Chapter office to hear from speakers presenting on Scleroderma 101, the Art of Camouflage Make-Up and Advocacy in the State of Michigan.

Senator Gilda Jacobs kicked off the day by sharing tips on how all of us can become effective advocates for scleoderma in correspondence with our state legislators.

Dr. Delfin Santos, rheumatologist with a practice in Rochester Hills, spoke on Scleroderma 101. His thorough and compassionate presentations was very well-received and was very informative.

Francie Paull, local make-up artist with an impressive background including work with Hollywood actors/actresses, helped guests learn the Art of Camouflage Make-Up. One guest, Lisa Simpson, was our model who allowed Francie to show guests how great camouflage make-up can cover the telangectasisas (red spots) on the face that are sometimes a symptom of scleroderma.

Our Chapter thanks each and every guest who joined us, and we hope to see you at our March, May and September patient-focused events, as well.

The event was generously sponsored by Gilead Sciences, Inc. We sincerely thank Gilead for their support and special thanks is extended to Ms. Danielle Brown with Gilead who joined us and provided delicious food and beverage for our guests!

For more information on this Patient Education Day, please contact Carol Hilf, Patient Services Coordinator, at 248.865.7259 or chilf@scleroderma.org.
