28th Annual Walk and Run:
HUGE SUCCESS FOR THE SCLERODERMA FOUNDATION MICHIGAN
CHAPTER!
On an absolutely perfect spring day on Sunday, June
10, an estimated 1200+ supporters gathered at Shain
Park in downtown Birmingham to celebrate our Chapter’s
28th Annual Walk and Run.
An amazing, fun-filled and very successful event was
enjoyed by all who attended.
The Chapter raised an estimated $130,000–140,000
and a final tally of funds raised is coming soon!
Highlights of the day included a celebrity guest appearance
by Barry Sanders, former Detroit Lion star running back,
who lost his beloved sister, Nancy, to scleroderma in
1991. Barry conducted a 'meet and greet' that included
a photo with the football hero. Our crowd was very excited
to have Barry with us for the day as he spoke to the
crowd about his personal experience with scleroderma
and his commitment to our cause and our Chapter.
George Blaha, local celebrity announcer for the Detroit
Pistons, stopped by and spoke to our crowd, as well,
about how scleroderma has touched his life. George has
known many families affected by scleroderma. He spent
time at our walk in the morning greeting fans.
Kim Adams, on-air personality with WDIV Channel 4,
was our emcee for the day. She kicked off festivities
early in the day and secured on-air coverage of the
event that morning and during the station's evening
news broadcasts -- thank you Kim!
The
day's activities were truly extraordinary and provided
fun for everyone! Among them were a 5k run, 1 and 3
mile walks, a 1 mile fun run for kids, silent and live
auctions, 50/50 raffle, dunk tank, live music, kidzone,
free massages, yoga, lunch provided by Outback Steakhouse,
awards ceremony and more.
Congratulations to the following individuals and teams
who raised pledges that qualified them to earn membership
in our "Let's Find the Cure for Scleroderma"

a variety of exciting benefits including scleroderma
