Indiana Walk 2009
Hoosier pride kicked into high gear to make this year's walk happen in Indiana. Knowing the economy would play a big part in participation, our 'early-bird' discount caused the largest number of pre-registrations ever. Check-in was a bit easier and speedy as a result!
Walkers stopped by Graphie-Tees table to choose their t-shirts - a light grey this year for the adults and a tangerine for the kids. Great hoodies and sweatshirts were also available for a donation to the Scleroderma Foundation.
Dunkin Donuts hand delivered all the breakfast goodies bright and early. Information booths from Arbonne, Goshen Health Systems, NI-DAN and WheelchairHelp.org set up shop in the pavilion around the Scleroderma Foundation table. Everyone had time to check out the drawing prizes and the silent auction items while the kids enjoyed having balloon hats, swords, animals and anything else under the sun they could ask for. Thanks to Ken's Balloons and Magic for the extra's to give away as drawing prizes.
The walkers turned out past the outdoor playground and hit the trail after a group photo for the one and three mile walk. Balloon Express did a great job on the balloon arch. The weather was fantastic - and no extra charge!
After the walk Papa Johns Pizza delivered 32 large pizza's - according to their 'pizza math' we had enought to feed 200 people. After the last person was served - 3 leftover slices! (nope, they didn't last long)!
A big 'Thank You' to our walk day volunteers: John, Sarah, John, Charlotte, John, Lynn, Andrea, Steve, Denise, Terry, Leandra, Don, Brody, Kelly, Marj, Lisa, Robert, Brittany and Pete.
Even with an uncertain economy, coming together as a group to do what we can was the order of the day.
Once again, the walk was a great time and a wonderful opportunity to connect with everyone here in Northern Indiana. |
