5th Annual "Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma" 3K and 5K Walk

On Saturday, June 6, 2009, the Scleroderma Foundation-Rocky Mountain Chapter held its 5th Annual Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma 3K/5K Walk.  Once again the weather cooperated and we had a warm sunny day for walkers to enjoy the beauty and serenity of Cherry Creek State Park as the Walk wound its way along the trails by the reservoir.

We broke all records this year with 250 walkers and over $20,000 raised!

Thanks to our generous sponsors we again awarded prizes to the top five individual and top three team pledge raisers.  This is where most of the grassroots donations come from for our Walk and we are grateful to those who work so hard to raise these funds:

Top Individual Pledge Raisers:
1st Place – Belinda Krajmalnik - $4,875
2nd Place – Barbara Gill - $4,191
3rd Place – Emily Chesterton - $3,020
4th Place - June Bryant - $1,980
5th Place - Betsy Craig - $1,405

Top Team Pledge Raisers:
1st Place – Cheryl's Footsloggers (in memory of Cheryl Elmore) - $4,991
2nd Place - Walking for Isaac (Isaac Krajmalnik) - $4,875
3rd Place – Marching for Margo (Margo Peter) - $3,045

Teams made up most of our walkers this year and included Barb's Team (Barb Donily), Charly's Bunch (Charly Littler), Cheryl's Footsloggers (Cheryl Elmore), Cody Dental (Barb Mathis), Friends of Betsy (Betsy Craig), High Steppers (Alison Ebert), JLM Memorial Team (Rita Miller), June's High Steppers (June Bryant), Kay's Team (Kay Ostrom), Marching for Margo (Margo Peter), NetJets (Bryson Skiles), Vanguard (Debbie Calahan), and Walking for Isaac (Isaac Krajmalnik).

We added an auction this year and, with the help of a signed Carmelo Anthony jersey donated by the Denver Nuggets, we raised over $400.  We again held a raffle that also raised over $100.

This event is dependent upon many volunteers who help not only at the Walk but also throughout the year with all the planning to put this event together.  Without these volunteers, there would be no Walks.  The Rocky Mountain Chapter is sincerely thankful to those who give their time each year to make this annual event happen.  Special thanks this year to Betsy Craig who did a "rockin" job emcee-ing the Walk and the friends and family of Cheryl Elmore who showed up in force (very early in the morning!) to help set-up for the event.

We are still spinning from this year's event but it is already time to start planning for next year.  If you are interested in helping to plan the walk or have suggestions for obtaining sponsors (i.e., local businesses, your doctor's office, your employer, etc.), please do not hesitate to contact the Rocky Mountain Chapter.

A picture is worth a thousand words…look how much fun we had this year!!
